About the University
Founded in 1924, the University of Trieste is a medium-sized university with a student population of approximately 20,000. It offers a wide range of degree courses at bachelor, master and doctoral level as well as short vocational masters, advanced masters and specialisation programmes, most of which are in the medical area. Some degree programmes are taught in English.
The university currently has 12 faculties: Advanced School of Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators, Architecture, Economics, Engineering, Law, Education, Humanities, Medicine and Surgery, Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, Pharmacy, Political Science, and Psychology.
The University of Trieste has an excellent reputation as far as research is concerned. Research activities are managed by 16 departments, which are also in charge of the doctoral research programmes.
The university is involved in various student and staff exchange programmes with universities in the EU and collaborates with several universities from Eastern Europe and other non-EU countries. It also participates in many research projects at national and international level.

It was ranked number one among Italian universities by the Times Higher Education in 2010 and it is among the top 500 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2010.
According to the latest independent research assessment carried out at national level, the University of Trieste is ranked first in Italy in the areas of nanotechnologies, industrial and IT engineering, and political science, and second in the areas of chemistry and law.
